Take a walk around your neighborhood. Bundle up and take a brisk walk around your neighborhood. Not only will you get some fresh air, but you’ll also be getting some exercise in.
Visit a nearby park. If there’s a park near you with trails, visits or even just playgrounds for the kids, make a trip there this winter. If you have access to hikes in any nearby state parks, consider taking advantage of them during the winter months when they’re less crowded than summertime.
Take a scenic drive. If you’re longing to see a beautiful winter landscape, a scenic drive might be the perfect solution.
Go skiing or snowboarding. If you’re feeling adventurous, give either (or both!) sports a try this season! You’ll get some exercise and have a lot of fun too. If snow sports aren’t your thing, but there’s snow on the ground, you can’t go wrong with sledding. Find a good spot near you for you and your family to hit your own slopes.
If there’s snow where you are, play in it! Just be sure to wear a good pair of gloves. Go out and build yourself a snowman, a snow fort, or have a snowball fight with your friends and family.
Host a bonfire. Gather around the flames and hot apple cider with your friends and family this winter.
Take a day trip somewhere new. Perhaps there’s a town nearby that puts up quite the holiday display each year, and you’ve been dying to see it. Or maybe you have family and friends who live farther away, and you’ve been meaning to visit. As long as the conditions are clear, winter traveling can be much more peaceful than in the summertime when everyone is trying to get away!
Visit a nearby natural hot spring to soak in. Speaking of day trips, if you’re feeling brave (or just plain chilly), consider heading to a nearby hot spring and soaking your way through this ice-cold season. You’ll feel relaxed and rejuvenated afterward!
Take your dog for a walk. Winter is the perfect time for taking long walks with your furry friend – especially your extra furry ones. And you’ll get some cool, fresh air too.
Go bird watching. Grab a book, binoculars if you have them, peek at what’s out there, and brush up on your bird identification skills.
Watch the sunrise or sunset. Head outside just before dawn breaks or when it gets dark. Some days getting outside just means enjoying nature’s views without having to stay cold for too long.
Ice skate. Ice skating is a perfect activity for colder days is ice skating – it’s great exercise and fun! If there’s an outdoor rink in your town or city, head on over and give it a try. Do a winter family photoshoot. If you don’t have a camera or prefer to have some shots of your adorable family instead of trees, hire someone or pay a friend to take some festive family photos for a great keepsake!
Plan a scavenger hunt with the family. Gather your friends and family members for a fun-filled scavenger hunt – you can make it themed around winter if you want or not. Either way, be sure to pick up some pinecones along the way and use them to make a Christmas wreath to hang on your door.
